70% f2?
70% f2?
I was just wondering if it was possible to have a 70% F2 Savannah?
Re: 70% f2?
The reason I ask is because a good friend of mine that bought one of our Savannah kittens wants to know. Someone is claiming they have 70% f2's. I am pretty sure that is impossible isn't it?

Re: 70% f2?
Yeah. Unlike wolfdogs they are true hybrids so it's a 50/50 cut each time.
f1=50%
f2=25%
Now if you cross the f1 with a full serval then f2=75% But even though it's second generation cross I don't think they count as f2 in the typical sense as that's normally used count towards domestic, not away

Re: 70% f2?
Probably not. But percentages can be mixed in weird ways: http://tiamosavannahs.webs.com/highsavannah.htm

Re: 70% f2?
Cool that explains the F thing better. I thought it was counting the breedings but seeing how you can have more than one breeding and still be one generation away from the serval clarifies.

Re: 70% f2?
Most likely he doesn't have a 70% f2 But the would possible with a 90%+ male and 50%+ female. The male must be around 90% to be fertile according to haldane's rule in order to be feritle. So if they have a 90%+ f1 male savannah and a %50 + female f1 savannah then yes he could have a 70% f2. Getting a male like that would be hard to though and it would require at least 3 serval breedings back to a higher percentage domestic ; and I'm not sure that this has ever been succusfully done.
Re: 70% f2?
Thank you for the replies. There is a breeder claiming to have 70% F2's on facebook. I just thought it looked kind of odd. and some things they were saying just didn't add up. I think they may be scammers. I don't know.
