Wolf Cubs

Postby Ash » Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:46 pm

I have a really hard time telling apart wolf cubs from some normal dog breeds. What are some of the characteristics that make a cub stand out? I haven't found a site that really talks about the looks of the actual puppy stage.

Thanks.

Well, they are born almost black. As they age the become a uniform sable color (no light or black points). Dont forget time of year they are born is a good indicator as well.

Right, wolf pups (they're not cubs) are only born in the spring. The high content wolfdogs and wolves are really the same. Usually March and April. Arctics can be born in May. Even the arctic pups are born dark. None are born white, or with mask, stockings, etc. etc. No pink pads, pink noses either, but that of course is a adult thing too. Pups ears will be standing up by 3 to 4 weeks of age, but no later then this. But your right at such a young age some are hard to tell apart from some doggie pups.
Also the eye color, the real young babies are born with blue eyes, not husky blue they will turn colors within the next few months

This is Loki's eyes at four weeks old

Loki's eyes at six weeks old

Loki's eyes at almost three months are green

By six months they're totally yellow

Thanks, you two. I really appreciate the helpful information. I've been seeing so many "high content" wolfdogs for sale lately and I couldn't tell visually if they really were HC or not. The price was always the tip-off though--charging $300-$400 for a supposedly HC puppy.

Cindy, thanks for posting those pictures and the link.

Yep that happens alot, if the pups are dark and you cant tell then you'd want to ask for photos of the parents you can usually really tell with that.

Here's a bunch of people that are trying to rip people off, that or they just dont know any better and were ripped off themselves by the original breeder

This place is one of the worst and her website will give you numerous laughs, she says her animals are pure, then calls them 98%, they're no where near that, more like 98% dog. You will have to go threw her albums. She also says wolves are not canine but are cats and gives them cat food and cat wormer, etc. etc. also says you should mix rocks in with they're food, like they're chickens.

Wow. Most of those don't look like they have any wolf in them at all. The pups on that second to last one are clearly either pure husky or malamute pups and all the white dogs just look like white german shepards or white german shepard mixes. And I remember that last site. Someone posted about it on another forum I was on. All I have to say is thank God they got rid of the stupid Lion King music they used to have on all the pages to go with the theme that their wolves are felines according to them. They also state that wolves are legal in Texas which they are not. Not without strict permits and regulations that are near impossible to get. They are endangering wolves by stating that. Also, endangering them by false health tips like feeding them cat food. And she falsely claims to selling federally protected subspecies like the mexican wolf that are critically endangered. :nogif: It's a disgusting website.

Also, she states her Mexican gray only come in "gray" as if they could come in other colors. There is only one color of Mexican Grays and it is "gray" or to be more precise a mix of gray, brown, and black called "buff". Also, since when do wolf puppies have gaint white chest markings.

Also, this line cracked me up:
When they are little they don't really have personalities yet, the will mimic the alfa. They get their personality from you and they like to do whatever you like.

Just wow. Everything has its own personality from the moment its born whether it be humans or animals. They also spelled "alpha" wrong. Classic.

Edit:Nope. I was wrong. They still have cheesy music on their site. I just forgot to turn my volume up.
Someone needs to teach people the no-nos of web design. I've seen far too many sites that use music on all or alot of their pages. It's very irritating and there's no garantee that all visitors will like the kind of music you choose. And it's not just freewebs sites either, but I've even seen some "official" dog breeder sites use the music too.

People have tried with them, to educate, etc. etc. The place is owned by two sisters who are both mentally
in-competent. Besides the fact thinking they own wolves, they're is a lot of neglect and straight up abuse going on there too. They have been reported to the authorities there but they will not do a thing about it.

Here are some pics that you may not see on they're website

@Cindy:
Wow. You mean they actually honestly believe that stuff about wolves being felines and that their dogs really are wolves?

I pretty much have the same response as this guy from the petition:
I saw these peoples website a year ago when a friend sent my a link saying "check out this fake website where they say wolves are felines and other hilarious stuff" It is sad to see it isn't a joke website AT ALL.

And it kind of sickens me to see that those poor dogs are so starved, probably because they only feed them cat food since they think they are felines. I didn't think there were actually people that dumb. I thought they were making up the stuff about wolves being felines just to be funny or something.

All of those dogs need to be confiscated and the breeders should be charged with atleast 15 counts of animal cruelty because I counted 15 dogs in the pool picture.

I am happy that they atleast gave the dogs a pool to play in though.

But still that doesn't excuse the fact that they strave and overbreed their animals and chain them and keep them in filthy and unsanitary conditions.

Nope they're dead serious about what they're saying, I've personally spoken to one of them a few times. Katie Newton. If you ever talk to them, before the conversation is over you will litterally be pulling your hair out or have half way chewed your tongue off to stop yourself from saying anything nasty to them.

the last time i checked on the wolfdog groups on facebook, they made up this plan to take down this place. they had a much of evidence and other things that the AC could'nt ignore anymore, and the only problem was where the rescued dogs would go. right now they're calling up wd rescues across the state i think, cuz these ladies have wayyyyyy more dogs than 15. more like 50!!!! maybe more, who knows? :b anyway, i havent been on fb in a while cuz my laptop broke (using my sis's fone for now), so idk what the sitch is now, but things were lookinn GREAT last i checked. also they invited kate newton to the facebook wolfdog groups and i think it was debbie who told everyone to be nice and helpful because she thinks this lady really does not think she's lying. sadd. too bad my laptop broke. i'd really like to know what's happened.

I don't know the people, but it sounds to me like they're hoarders. To keep that many dogs and being unable to care for them... In which case I feel sorry for them, because animal hoarding is really almost like a mental illness in many ways. The dogs should definitely be rescued, but I also wish those two sisters the best in case they do have any problems.

They are a puppy mill, not hoarders. animal hoarders care about all their animals, whereas these women care only for making a quick buck.

Not necessarily. Hoarders think they look after their animals, but the animals take over in numbers and they (the people) have no way of providing good care for all of them.
