Colour Morphs..... what's in the UK?!

Postby Katalyst » Thu Aug 11, 2016 3:49 pm

There seems to be very few colours (of reds) regularly bred in the UK. Is this because importation is impossible? Or because there are health issues associated with certain genes that no one wants over here? I keep seeing all these stunning coloured Foxes but they're rarely my side of the pond.
Has anyone ever attempted to import?
Thoughts?

They aren't impossible to import. The problem though is that the quarantine period after importation is very long. And by the time it's "safe" for you to bring home, it will already be close to an adult and will not be socialized. So you would wind up with a wild animal that would not make a good pet.

That is not ideal for people who want them as pets, but it would work for those who wish to breed kits into pets.

Katalyst, you can contact this breeder about their foxes. I imagine there are more fox breeders, but they were the only ones that do show up with Google search.

Elina doesn't breed her reds due to there being an excess of abandoned foxes. She breeds her fennecs, but purposefully separates her reds and arctics. Around kit season though, she does get lots of calls regarding people getting rid of their kits, so it's possible she could have access to a rarer color that way. Elina is a moderator here, by the way. :)

Is Elina the owner of the Flashman Foxes website, or is that someone else?

Yes! :) Her business name was/is "Flashman Foxes," and she owns a good number of reds, an arctic(s), lots of corsacs, and fenncs. In addition, she has really started getting into dog breeding and is highly respected in the dog community. Elina breeds Alaskan Klee Kai pups. She's amazing, so I would highly recommend her for fennec kits and AKK puppies! Her animals are very well-taken care of and she puts so much time and energy into them. Very great lady.

You can get red, silver, platinum and combinations of them in the UK. I'm not sure about marble or white face or fire or the other color forms.
