4 weeks is a nice age to get a raccoon. yep, I am sure you are enjoying him, he sounds like a real sweetheart.Debek60 wrote:Huggy was only about 4 weeks old. I think it was love at first sight. I have enjoyed him so much. My mare (Mitawa Wanka Tanka) her English name was My Great Spirit and I tried everything possible for her. Comes a time when the Rainbow Bridge beckons. I know she is happy and racing with Secratariat!! My grandfather was a Lakota Sioux and he told me when I was young that the wolf was my totem. I have read and researched about them most of my life. Actually hooves grow fastest in hot weather, so says my farrier. The donkey's hooves grow much faster than my horse's do. Don't quite get that, but guess I don't have to. LOL I know how hard it is to lose a loved pet and as you said, non-animal people just don't get it. Too bad for them never having known just how special our pets are to us. Seems I am rambling..sorry.
Love hearing from you.
interesting about the "great spirit thing, I don't really follow that stuff. not that I am not interested, I just have my hands full everyday.
yep, always hard when our pets cross the rainbow bridge.

I have them all hanging on the wall along with the poem "rainbow bridge" however, every time I look at it, It makes me sad.
I take your word about the hooves growing faster in hot weather. I thought a farrier told me, damp weather makes it worse

they didn't start getting bad and growing so fast until we started having a lot of wet weather, but, on another note, maybe they grow faster as they get older?
the non-animal lovers don't know what they missed. I get replies sometimes, "why do you have all these animals" actually awhile ago,
I had a party with some close friends, when I had Larry Lee (the one that died of liver cancer) he use to always nap in a cupboard outside the bathroom door, one of girls at the party was scared to death of him, he stayed in the closet, she didn't even want to look at him.
