Sushi my tanuki was taken acutely ill a few weeks ago and after a few red herrings it transpired that he had meningitis/encephalitis or something along those lines.
Some weeks of heavy medication, stress and intensive care later, he is vastly improved and dare I say it, nearly back to normal.

Thanks! I dearly wish I could upload pics and videos to this forum. I managed to take him out for a walk around the garden today which must have been blissful for him given that he's been stuck in a crate for what feels like forever.
It turned out to be meningitis or some other similar inflammation of the brain/meninges. Pretty terrifying stuff.
Re: A quick update on Sushi...
Another sushi update:
After what seemed to be a nearly complete recovery with only mild neuro symptoms, he has now developed steroid induced cushings and is going bald.
In case anyone ever wondered, half naked tanuki look bloody ridiculous.

Aw poor thing. Are they able to treat that? Aurora seems to have endocrine imbalance issues but with no normals for her species there's no way to test for it so no way to treat it.
Re: A quick update on Sushi...
Hope the little man feels better. Do you have any pictures posted anywhere of his condition? (Just curious for educational purposes in case others have this issue with their tanukis.) Hope he can start feeling better soon...
Is it a permanent thing he's got now or a temporary treatable thing?
